Google Drive: Hits the cloud spaceSo it has finally happened. After Google Chrome and Google Play, the third installment- the much awaited Google Drive has finally made it to the World Wide Web. A space where you can generate, share, work in collaboration by storing all your stuff, whether you’re functioning with someone or alone; creating, collating  data for any future program or making budgets- Drive can ensure you a smooth drive through any such activity.

Be it uploading or accessing files of any variety-images, videos, Google Documents, PDF or anything under the Sun, Drive makes it possible for you. The users would be allotted 5 GB of space to stack in their data, a 3 GB more than what’s provided by Dropbox.

A late entrant into the fray, followed by Microsoft’s SkyDrive and Dropbox, the opinion makers are touting that Google will do anything to break the mold and stay ahead in the competition.

According to wired.com-“Google wants to replace the Pen Drive with Drive”.

Listed below are some of the facets of Google Drive.

Develop and co-operate

Google drive contains Google Docs in its purview, which would help you work with everyone in tandem in real-time, right from Docs, Spreadsheets and Presentations. All one needs to do is push the share button to comment, reply on any of the posted content and interact with your chosen people and get updates on what they say. The move will especially comfort the people who’re accustomed to Google Docs.

Stacking up made safer and accessible on the move

It will work wonderfully well for people on the move, involved with their daily chores or travelling between cities or crossing countries entering different time zones, as also for the ones’ at their workplace or at home. Another fabulous feature is that Google Drive is compatible with PC, Mac as well as with Android machines; therefore it’s easily downloadable on your Android handsets or tabs.

Look up anything

The most fascinating feature, is that it allows to look up anything through keywords, which separates itself out by file type, file creator and through many other ways. There’s a unique inbuilt Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software- which would let’s say enable you to read the words contained in the scanned image of a magazine article. Apart from this there’s an image recognition function, in which if you put up a picture, for instance of  The Statue of Liberty, it would let you find it by filling in ‘Statue of Liberty’ in the search box. Even though this advancement is still at a nascent stage, it is expected to take off in the future. And that’s not all- if the 5GB space (in spite of being quite enough for regular usage), falls short for you; there’s an option to increase it to 25 GB at $2.49 per month, 100 GB at $4.99 per month and 1 Terra Byte for $49.99 per month

All said and done, Google Drive’s is going to make a sound impact on personalized computing, at least for the devoted users of Google. Drive is targeted at enhancing the overall Google experience by acting as a link to make Google an all encompassing, self sufficient, independent platform catering seamlessly to all our needs.  One can attach pictures from Drive to postings on G+ ,while attaching files to your Gmail account is still under progress.

Being an open platform, the 5 GB space is allotted for free.

Conclusion

Next in line is the Google Operating System or the Google OS. It is Google’s attempt to get everything from data to applications on the cloud, which would be somewhat an extension of the ‘Chromebook’ laptops . The move by Google would certainly mark a new beginning, bringing in a colossal change to the way world of computing is looked upon.
